This collaboration, on view from July 19 to August 9, 2024, at Station Gallery, highlights the exceptional talent and diverse artistic practices represented by these two galleries.

Station Gallery proudly presents Juraj Toman and Dušana Vrbovská. Juraj Toman offers new contemporary perspectives on traditional oil painting, innovatively addressing themes of space and time. Dušana Vrbovská focuses on realistic depictions of transformations in nature, capturing details of tree bark, shrubs, leaves, and their decay and subsequent rebirth through her works.

Schottert Contemporary enthusiastically introduces the works of Kika Tomaňa and Diana Elischerová. Kika Tomaňa’s abstract interpretations capture the fleeting beauty of the environment, evoking a sense of place and emotion through her masterful use of texture and color. Diana Elischerová’s multidisciplinary approach, encompassing installations and painting, delves into the depths of human experiences.

„Summer Convention“ is a testament to the creative synergy and innovative spirit that define the partnership between Station Gallery and Schottert Contemporary. By bringing together the diverse talents of these four artists, the exhibition offers a rich tapestry of perspectives and practices that celebrate the power of artistic collaboration.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in the unique visions and thematic explorations presented at the exhibition. Each artwork serves as a window into the creator’s world, offering insights ranging from deeply personal to universally resonant. The exhibition emphasizes the importance of supporting dialogue within the artistic community and the transformative potential of collaborative creative efforts.

Kika Tomaňa

Step into the fascinating world of Kika Tomaňa, an artist whose creative journey spans painting, tapestry, and soft sculpture. Tomaňa has established herself as a remarkable talent on the contemporary art scene. Her artistic education began at the renowned Jozef Vydra Secondary Vocational School in Bratislava, where under the guidance of Anna Bohatová, she honed her skills in manual textile processing. This period laid the foundation for her fascination with textiles and their potential as an artistic medium. She continued her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where she studied in the Department of Textile Design under doc. Blanka Cepková from 2015 to 2022. Living in Sereď, Tomaňa draws inspiration from her surroundings and translates it into her artistic practice. Her works, composed of painting, tapestry, and soft sculpture, reflect her masterful craftsmanship and deep connection to textiles.

Diana Elischerová

Diana Elischerová is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, where she studied under prof. Ivan Csudai in the IV Studio at the Department of Painting, but started in the Department of Textile Creation under doc. Blanka Cepková. In her work, she combines painting with textiles, merging the two media in terms of optics, morphology, and sources of inspiration. Her works often bear elements of pop art, but their metaphorical range and ability to evoke various associations are much broader. Her inspiration comes from everyday objects such as juicy fruits or lollipops, which in the process of creation acquire new, often destructive or decadent meanings. Her works are usually on a larger scale, dominating the entire space. Elischerová uses the tufting technique, where she pulls sheep wool into a mesh using a special gun. Her works, such as the red carpet with „immortal“ shoe prints, offer an ironic take on ceremonial carpets.

Juraj Toman

Juraj Toman focuses on painting rural landscapes and urban areas. He often enriches his works with multiple levels of space, capturing human perception of the environment and spacetime. Toman’s paintings exhibit multiple layering of landscapes or urban areas, evoking a sense of nostalgia. His works elicit feelings of past, present, and future simultaneously, allowing the viewer to switch between these layers of reality. Toman draws inspiration from empty city streets and abandoned places, which he calls „non-existent places.“ He is a graduate of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava and the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, where he earned the title ArtD (Doctor of Arts) in 2014.

Dušana Vrbovská

Dušana Vrbovská began her studies in toy and decorative object creation but later turned her focus to painting. She studied at the Academy of Arts in Banská Bystrica, where she completed her bachelor’s degree in 2017 and her master’s degree in 2019. In her work, she focuses on realistic depictions of transformations in nature, capturing details of tree bark, shrubs, leaves, and their decay and subsequent rebirth. Her paintings immerse the viewer, compelling them to pause and appreciate beauty in detail. Vrbovská often draws inspiration from her surroundings and depicts natural details in her studio. She currently lives and works in Senica.
